STI's and Kissing?

Before the test, we ask you to complete a questionnaire. Questions about your testing history, your motivation and your knowledge of how HIV is transmitted help prepare you for the consultation with one of our testing counsellors and enable them to tailor their advice to your specific needs. Completing the questionnaire is anonymous and entirely voluntary. We also offer counselling in English.

If your HIV test comes back positive, we can carry out a confirmatory test. You will receive the result after two to four days. We offer further counselling and support if needed. We can provide information on HIV-specialist clinics in Berlin and supporting services by other organisations.

If you have any questions, you can call us at +49 30 216 8008 or send an email to info@mann-o-meter.de.

No prior registration is required.

Simply drop by on Mondays and Tuesdays between 6.00 pm and 9.30 pm (last admission at 9.15 pm)
and on Wednesdays to Fridays between 5.00 pm and 8.30 pm (last admission at 8.15 pm).

If it gets too busy, we may have to close the reception early and ask you to come back another day.

Rapid HIV tests and laboratory HIV tests do not test for HIV directly. They detect so-called antibodies, which the body produces only several weeks after HIV transmission. The period between transmission, and when the virus can be detected, is known as the diagnostic window. For the laboratory test (4th generation), this period is six weeks; for the rapid test, it is three months. Only after this time, an HIV infection can be reliably confirmed, or ruled out, using the appropriate test. If there has been a further risk of transmission during this period, you should take another test six weeks or three months later.

The rapid test is not an early detection test. 'Rapid' does not mean that you can get tested shortly after a risk, but rather, that only a few minutes pass between the blood sample being taken and the result being read.

The HIV PCR test, on the other hand, detects the HI-virus directly and can therefore be carried out as early as 11 to 14 days after a risk of transmission.
