Psychological Counselling
Consultancy Service
In psychological counselling, it is possible to describe one’s problem(s) and work with the psychologist or trained counsellor to find solutions. The following principle applies: only the individual can decide what they experience as a problem. In this respect, the person seeking consultancy determines what they wish to discuss and what they do not. The counsellor will treat the issues raised with respect. The outcome of the counselling sessions remains open-ended and is tailored to the client’s circumstances.
Some of the issues frequently addressed as part of our counselling service are:
- Questions about HIV and AIDS
- "I’ve had unprotected sex"
- "My partner is cheating on me"
- "I can’t make friends"
- "I’m not sure if I’m gay"
- etc.
We work closely with other city-run projects and with therapists. If necessary, we can refer you to other organisations.
Any gay or bisexual man can make use of the counselling service at Mann-O-Meter free of charge up to three times during normal opening hours. Appointments can be made either in person at our centre, via telephone, in writing or via email. The session lasts one hour and takes place in a separate counselling room.
In addition to these face-to-face consultations, it is also possible to seek advice via telephone, in writing or via email. All counselling services can be provided anonymously upon request. Naturally, the counsellors are bound by a duty of confidentiality.
